The Restena Foundation has published its annual report on activities carried out throughout 2021. It focuses on its activities interconnecting and providing network and security services for both research and education and management of the .lu domain name registration infrastructure. It is organised around four main chapters: key figures, highlights, governance and annual accounts.

Most of Restena’s 21 employees (a team mainly composed of engineers) are active in national and European associations and some are involved in higher education courses in Luxembourg. Beyond, several new developments marked 2021.

• The operation of the 12th point of presence within the national network for research and education (or RESTENA network) backbone allowing the connection of the first national players at 100 Gbits/s: MeluXina, the Luxembourg supercomputer operated by LuxProvide and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) ;
• The implementation of RPKI (Resource Public Key Infrastructure) filtering applied to both input and output of all infrastructures managed by Restena - the RESTENA network, the infrastructure for registering domain names under the national extension .lu and the majority of the LU-CIX Internet exchange platform - allowing, in particular, to improve the security of routing on the internet;
• The official consideration of the Computer Emergency Response Team (CSIRT) of Restena as the sectoral CERT of education and research in Luxembourg thanks to in-depth collaboration with GOVCERT.LU;
• The participation in the BTS cybersecurity of the Lycée Guillaume Kroll (LGK) accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research at the start of the 2021/2022 school year;
• The extension of the DNS server service to holders of .lu domain names via the Restena's registrar, enabling them to use their domain name reliably and with total peace of mind by using authoritative name servers benefiting from DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions);
• The election of Gilles Massen, Director of the Restena Foundation, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries (CENTR) - an association dedicated to the exchange, dialogue and innovation of European top-level domain registries, a first in Restena's history.
